Frigg's Oath

Summary

Baldur, the most beloved of the Norse gods, is plagued with baneful dreams. With each passing night, the dreams grow worse and eventually prophecies his death. When news of this reaches his mother Frigg, the beautiful all-knowing queen of Asgard and wife of Odin, she sets out on a desperate quest to save her son. Her journey takes her all throughout the nine realms, and she faces everything from elves to giants.  Despite her strenuous efforts, the anguished mother soon learns that no one can escape fate's iron grip. Not even gods.

This is a story about a mother's love for her son, and that mother doing everything in her power to save him even though she knows she can't. It's a family drama at heart, with gods as characters and a touch of magic.

Why Are We Making This?

Aside from our deep love for the lore, we want to make this film because Norse culture is noticeably absent in western cinema. This is a shame, because audiences are missing out on such an amazing, imaginative heritage. The very heritage, in fact, that inspired The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Through this film, we hope to enlighten audiences about how important these Norse myths are to our own culture, and to oppose its unfortunate (and inaccurate) rightist interpretations. We want to re-evaluate these extraordinary tales with a strong feminist approach that shatters the classic mindlessly violent Viking stereotype, while revealing the true heart and spirit of this remarkable culture.

We plan to go into production in September or October of this year, with a release date set for April 20th, 2012.
